Temptation:-

 

  1. What is temptation? Definition. Terms
  2. Sources of temptation- objects, people - places, pleasures

                                              -body, satan, world, others,- time, occasion

  1. How to overcome? (Eg. Joseph, Daniel, Jesus)

a)      Don’t blame God

b)      Is not beyond your capability (I Cor 10:13)

c)      You can overcome

d)      Determine first in your heart/mind

e)      Find ways to avoid the source (eg Daniel)

f)        Make an effort to escape-run (2 Tim 2:23-25)

g)      Use word & prayer

h)      Seek the fellowship of God’s people (Heb 3:13)

i)        Receive counsel

j)        Surrender fully to Holy Spirit.

 

 

TEMPTATION : VICTIM OR VICTOR ?  James 1:13-17

 

Do not blame God for temptations:-

Temptations from Satan (Mat 4), to flesh (vs 14), from the world

1.      Submit to the Lordship & trust Jesus as your saviour

2.      Pray (Ps 40)

3.      Apply the word of God (Ps 119:11)

4.      Yield to the control of the Holy Spirit. (Jude 24, Gal 5:16)

 

 

NINE KINDS OF TONGUES :-

 

  1. A backbiting – Pro 25:23
  2. A deceitful – Ps 120:2
  3. A lying – Ps 109:2
  4. A forward or perverted – Pro 10:31
  5. A naughty or destructive – Pro 17:4
  6. A perverse – Pro 17:20
  7. A stammering – Is 33:19
  8. A soft – Pro 25:15
  9. A wholesome – Pro 15:4

 

 

TIME (OPPORTUNITY UTILISED)

 

For such a time as this – 2 Kings 7:3-10 Key verse –9

 

  1. This is a day of good tidings :-

-         the opportunities open & available

-         the closing time at hand

 

  1. We are keeping quite :-

- blessing is not isolated to pass on

 

  1. If we tarry till morning light :-

-         no delay – immediate response

-         the Lord’s coming at hand –morning light

 

  1. Let’s go out once & report :-

-         the urgency & action to proclaim

 

 

PRACTICING THE TRUTH :- 3 JOHN

 

  1. Possessing the truth – accepting it.
  2. Practicing the truth – walking in it- produces joy- living it out.

-         faithfully doing, continuing, witnessed by others

-         honours Jesus name

  1. Partnership in the truth:- receiving others in His name

- helping in their practical needs

  1. People as examples :-

Diotrephes – opposing, malicious, evil

Demetrius – good report

 

 

TURNING TRIALS INTO TRIUMPHS :- (JAMES 1:1-12)

  

  1. The purpose of trials :

Purification-Job 23:10, learning-Ps 119:67, for our good- 2 Cor 4:17,

Give thanks - I Thess 5:18, all things…for good – Ro 8:28

  1. The products of trials :- patience –vs 3, completeness –vs 4, wisdom-vs 5
  2. The solution to our trials :- Faith –vs 6-8- that links our nothingness to His Almightiness.
  3. The result of our trials or the blessing- vs 12- the crown of life.
